WHAT ABOUT THIS.

This black and white photo was taken some 37-8 years ago, does'nt time fly. (guess who).
These pictures were E-Mailed to me on sunday last.
These photo's are of Pams back garden, I think she's done very well in around two years.

This blog is really only half mine, let me explain. My daughter Pam has a blog of her own Bigbustybikerbaby.blogspot.com which I have to keep hounding her to do. Her range of excuses include too busy, nothing to write about, no time etc etc, so, I thought I would do one for her. These photo's of her garden are definately worth a blog , dont you agree?.

A WALK ON DARTMOORS TORS.

Just look at the clour of the water in this little stream which is full of peat

Today Sue and I walked up both Haytor and Honeybag (I think) Tors. To any of you that view this blog that may not know a Tor is a high group of Prehistoric rock formations, there are dozens of these at varying heights all over Englands famous "Dartmoor". This is for me a difficult part of my diet regime as to now lose more weight, I need to exercise which is'nt easy with my condition so I usually take my portable oxygen cylinder on these walks.(I have lost 3st -12 lbs so far). I could'nt resist a photo of this snack wagon very apt for dartmoor eh.
Please click on any picture to enlarge it.

FUCHSIAS IN FLOWER .

I'm afraid I'm in my confession box tonight, I have to admit that I'm very ashamed of the state of my Fuchsia plants this year.We have spent so little time here in Teignmouth this year that they have suffered because of that. Since first being diagnosed breathing problems then Diabetes, plus Sue's been having a lot of problems with both her asthma and her arthritis what little time we have been here has been spent in Doctors surgery's or hospital clinics, so,hence Fuchsias have suffered. I've decided that this year I will offer a couple of blogs purely on the Fuchsia flowers (so nobody can give me too much stick about the state of the plants) so please dont tell anybody will you.

THE VALLEY OF THE ROCKS .

Sue on top of the world, well almost anyway.
We did stand on this plateu opposite but there was no one to take our photo.
We decided to give this one a miss.
Look at the tiny winding perilous path down to the beach, no thanks if its all the same to you.
Some of this beautiful landscape you can imagine being almost unchanged for thousands of years.
The Tarmac path wends its sometimes precarious path 2 miles along the cliffs through to Lynton
You can see by the photo's both Sue and I (with a struggle) managed to climb a few of these peaks.
As you can see my daughters family dogs Poppy and Tara came too.

We recently went with my daughter and her family on a day out to the above, they had nipped down to their caravan for the week/end. Her son( our grandson) Tom whose 15 now decided to stay home "with his mates". The day turned out dry but very mixed, overcast one minute lovely sunshine the next.

LYNTON & LYNMOUTH.

Last week we had a ride out to Lynton/Lynmouth for the day, then on to the valley of rocks. While there we took a few more photo's once again. For the moment here are a few of just Lynmouth. This village was completely devastated by a major flood in 1952 which I believe took about 30 lives and rendered about 100 homeless. The cause was that two streams which converge in the village swole to unbelievable proportions then came together to form a huge wall of water that swept through the village in the early hours of the morning while the inhabitants were asleep. There is a small Museum housed on the sea front documenting with photo's, newspaper cuttings and a scale model all about this disaster and is well worth a visit. The village is also famous for its cliff railway which runs up the very steep incline( under 1 in 3) between the village and Lynton(900 ft up) above. This narrow gauge railway is powered by river water and works on the principal of two cars (one up one down) with tanks of water full on one and empty on the other,The weight of the full tank hauls up the car and its inhabitants in the other, slowly releasing its water on the journey to compensate. This was built at least a century a ago, I believe it was started in 1889 and completed and opened on Easter monday 1990.(The history of this is available on the history of Lynton cliff railway).

JULY OR AUGUST.

This Picture from the front of Shammickite magazine for July/Aug is especially for Ex-Shammickite and anyone else who may remember it.

That time of year is here once more,
Its time to head for sea or shore,
Were all off work or most it seems,
Trying to fulfill our holiday dreams.

The kids they all broke up last week,
Our holiday times are at their peak,
We try to nip off for a week or two.
To seek out places old and new.

We've pondered brochures and TV ads,
Even asked our mums and dads,
Trying to decide just where to go,
Even now we still don't know.

We thought of Blackpool, Morecombe or Looe,
Perhaps Torquay , Dawlish or Crewe,
Then there's Clacton ,Weston and lots more,
Somewhere clean and tidy for sure.

At Butlins ,Pontins or any holiday site,
Could even be the Isle of Wight,
Chalets, Caravans, tents if we like,
In Cars on bikes or even a hike.

Whatever we finally decide to do,
The roads will be full of me and you,
All sitting in queues a bloody mile long
Thinking perhaps we got it wrong.

DEVON , WHAT A BEAUTIFUL COUNTY.

Last week we had a day trip to Lynton/Lynmouth stopping on the way back to visit the lovely valley of rocks but those are future blogs. On the journey we stopped several times to take these photo's that I thought were too good not to pass on to you, see if you agree and please comment (but not on the picture quality). The first and third pics are looking down on the village of Combe Martin.
